Arizona Governor Approves $500 Million for Chase Field Renovations

Governor Katie Hobbs has approved legislation granting up to $500 million for major renovations at Chase Field, home to the Arizona Diamondbacks, promising to secure the team’s long-term presence in downtown Phoenix.

The funding, drawn from sales tax revenue generated at the stadium and nearby properties over 30 years, will pay for crucial upgrades like new air conditioning and repairs to the retractable roof, vital for coping with Phoenix’s summer heat.

The Diamondbacks will add $250 million of their own, doubling down on their commitment.

Bipartisan support in the state legislature emphasizes Chase Field’s importance to Phoenix’s economy and lively downtown, surrounded by small businesses and restaurants.

While most lawmakers back the deal, some—like Democratic State Senator Mitzi Epstein—objected to using public funds without more community perks.

Renovations aim to keep the Diamondbacks at Chase Field, boost jobs, and elevate the city’s reputation as a major sports destination.
